The founder of Salvation Ministries, Pastor David Ibiyeomie, has warned Christians against buying Christmas clothing before paying their tithes, claiming that failure to fulfil the religious obligation could expose believers and their families to misfortunes.

Ibiyeomie gave the warning during a sermon, recounting incidents in which vehicles carrying him reportedly suffered tyre bursts, which he attributed to the drivers’ alleged failure to pay tithes.
“Don’t buy Christmas cloth when you have not paid tithe. It’s dangerous. It’s very dangerous,” the cleric said.
Tyre Bursts Linked To Unpaid Tithes
He claimed that three separate incidents involving drivers who transported him were linked to their alleged failure to pay tithes.
Recounting one incident, Ibiyeomie said two tyres burst while he was travelling with a driver towards Obosi. He said he confronted the driver about his tithing practices after the incident.
“I stopped and said to the driver of the bus, you don’t pay tithe. He kept quiet. I said that’s why these two tyres busted,” he recounted.
The pastor also narrated another incident involving a newly employed driver who was driving his Rolls-Royce, while he and his wife were returning from the airport.
According to Ibiyeomie, two tyres burst during the journey, prompting him to ask that the driver’s records be checked.
He further recalled another vehicle-related incident that allegedly occurred two days before the sermon, claiming that he suspected the driver was not paying tithes when the vehicle developed a problem.
Ibiyeomie maintained that the incidents were not necessarily the work of the devil, urging Christians to examine their religious obligations rather than attribute every misfortune to spiritual attacks.
“All of them have been born again for years. All this attack is not the devil. Not everything will go to the devil,” he said.

‘Don’t Tamper With Your Tithe This December’
The cleric also warned believers against reducing or diverting their tithes to cover festive expenses, particularly as households prepare for Christmas celebrations.
“I’m telling you this December, don’t tamper with your tithe. Otherwise, they may rush your children,” he said.
He urged Christians to pay what he described as the correct tithe, arguing that some believers give according to their preferences rather than what he considers the appropriate amount.
“Many of you are Christians, don’t pay correct tithe. You pay as you like. It’s not pay as you go. Pay correct tithe so that you don’t be blaming the devil for what the devil is not responsible for,” Ibiyeomie added.
The pastor’s remarks centre on the place of tithing in Christian religious practice and the financial decisions believers make during the festive season.
His claims linking tyre bursts and other misfortunes to unpaid tithes were presented as personal accounts during the sermon and were not independently verified.
