U.D. Okon, who was travelling from Itakpe in Kogi State to Warri, aboard the affected train, described the incident as the most horrifying experience of his life.

According to Okon, the train derailed near Agbor, while on its journey to Warri, leaving several passengers dead, injured, or permanently disfigured.

“Yesterday I travelled in this train from Itakpe in Kogi State to Warri. Sadly, around Agbor the train derailed. It was the most horrible experience of my life,” he wrote in a post following the incident.

While expressing gratitude for surviving the accident, he said many passengers were not as fortunate.

“While I am grateful to God that I am alive and well, sadly the same cannot be said of some who died, others badly injured and others permanently disfigured,” he said.

Okon said he was particularly devastated by the death of a mother who reportedly left behind two young children, as well as the death of a child during the incident.

“I am deeply saddened and moved with tears for a mother who died and left behind two young kids. I am also moved with tears for a young child whose head was cut off and many other tragic experiences,” he added.

A cleric, Rev. Mrs. Monisola Obasa, also shared Okon’s account of the tragedy, revealing that he contacted her after the derailment to inform her that he had been among the passengers onboard the train.

She said Okon was advised to return home instead of continuing his journey to Warri that night.

According to Obasa, the survivor recounted the deaths of several passengers, including three children and a pregnant woman.

“This train crash happened in Agbor yesterday. One of our sons in the faith, U.D. Okon, called to tell us that he was one of the passengers onboard the train that derailed,” she wrote.

“We quickly asked him to come home instead of continuing the journey that night to Warri since he couldn’t even get a vehicle at the park.
