The Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress has removed its chairman, Barrister Alphonsus Eba, following a sweeping vote of no confidence that reshaped the party’s leadership structure. Ntufam Ekum Ekok Ojogu, who previously served as deputy chairman, has taken charge as acting chairman after being sworn in at the party secretariat in Calabar.
Eba’s removal came through a motion moved by Hon Okara Ekawu, the state welfare secretary, and seconded by Dr Mathew Egom, the party treasurer. He faced accusations ranging from misappropriation of funds to high-handed conduct and failure to pay party officials’ stipends for four months. Party executives described the situation as untenable and said the decision followed the rules of the APC constitution.
Ojogu told reporters that thirty out of thirty two members of the state executive committee voted in favour of the impeachment during a session held on 26 November. He said the process reflected the will of the party’s leadership to restore order and rebuild confidence among members.

In his acceptance speech, the new acting chairman called on party members to put aside grievances and unify behind a shared purpose. He pledged that outstanding dues owed to officials would be addressed soon and thanked grassroots leaders for sustaining the party’s strength during a turbulent period.
Ojogu praised the work of ward executives, polling unit coordinators and volunteers across Cross River, calling them the foundation of the APC’s influence in the state. He reaffirmed his loyalty to Governor Bassey Edet Otu and described the governor’s leadership as the anchor of the party’s renewed direction.
The leadership change marks a decisive moment for the Cross River APC as it looks to stabilise ahead of upcoming political engagements.
