Dutch brewing giant Heineken has appointed Rafael Oliveira as its new chief executive officer, ending months of speculation following the unexpected departure of former CEO Dolf van den Brink earlier this year.
Key Highlights:
Oliveira, currently the CEO of JDE Peet’s, will assume the role on October 1, 2026, subject to shareholder approval. He has been nominated for a four-year term as chair of Heineken’s Executive Board and Chief Executive Officer.
The appointment is historic for the world’s second-largest brewer, as Oliveira becomes the first external candidate to be selected as CEO in the company’s modern history, breaking with Heineken’s long-standing tradition of promoting leaders from within its ranks.
Oliveira succeeds Dolf van den Brink, who announced his decision to step down in January after nearly six years as CEO and 28 years with the company.

Van den Brink said at the time that it was the right moment for a leadership transition following the launch of Heineken’s EverGreen 2030 strategy.
Before joining JDE Peet’s in 2024, Oliveira held senior leadership positions at major consumer goods companies, including Kraft Heinz.
He is widely regarded as an experienced executive with a strong track record in business transformation, operational efficiency and global market expansion.
Heineken said Oliveira’s combination of strategic insight, operational expertise and financial discipline made him the ideal candidate to lead the company through its next phase of growth.
His appointment comes at a challenging time for the brewer, which has faced slowing beer demand, changing consumer habits and pressure from investors seeking improved performance.
The company has also announced plans to cut up to 6,000 jobs globally as part of efforts to improve efficiency and profitability.
Investors reacted positively to the announcement, with Heineken’s shares rising following news of Oliveira’s appointment, reflecting optimism that fresh leadership could help revive growth and strengthen the company’s competitive position.
Oliveira is expected to oversee the implementation of Heineken’s long-term growth strategy while navigating the challenges facing the global beer industry, including evolving consumer preferences, rising costs and increasing competition
