Suspected gunmen have invaded a secondary school in Oyo State and abducted the principal alongside an unspecified number of students, in yet another violent attack targeting schools in Nigeria.
The incident occurred on Friday morning at Community High School, Ahoro-Esinele, in Oriire Local Government Area of the state.

According to the Oyo State Police Command, the attackers stormed the school between 8:00am and 9:00am, causing panic among residents and staff before whisking away the school principal, Mrs Rachael Alamu, and several students.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, confirmed the attack in a statement issued on Friday.

He said the exact number of abducted students had yet to be ascertained.
“The source also said a teacher was shot during the attack, though the extent of the injury has not been confirmed,” the statement added.
Police authorities said the gunmen escaped through a forest reserve bordering the community after allegedly fleeing with the principal in her vehicle.
Residents reportedly blamed the delayed security response on the distance between the community and the nearest police station.
The Commissioner of Police was said to have deployed tactical teams and other officers to the area for rescue operations and on-the-spot assessment.
