Scores of passengers traveling in a GIG Mobility bus were kidnapped on Saturday near Obajana, Kogi State. The bus, en route from Lagos to Abuja, was ambushed by armed assailants who abducted all the passengers. The driver, however, managed to escape unharmed.
Eyewitnesses and victims’ families have taken to social media, sharing harrowing details of the attack. One X user revealed that her friend, who had attended a convocation in Cotonou, was among the abductees. She further disclosed that the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of N100 million for her release.
“Please, I need your help. My friend was kidnapped at Lokoja, Kogi State. The kidnappers are demanding N100 million for her release. This happened after the driver fled the scene. Any assistance to help bring her back would be greatly appreciated,” the emotional post read.
Another source confirmed that the bus belonged to GIG Mobility, formerly known as “God Is Good Motors,” and all passengers were forcibly taken.

An X user who narrowly escaped the incident recounted the terrifying moment: “I drove past the scene yesterday. It was only the driver left. The bus had shattered windscreens and was attacked just after Dangote cement factory in Obajana. I was almost a victim, but my car overheated at Kabba, forcing me to stop.”
GIG Mobility has since acknowledged the incident in a statement shared on social media, expressing its commitment to cooperating with security agencies to ensure the safe return of the abducted passengers.
This incident has sparked widespread outrage and renewed concerns about the safety of road travel in Nigeria. Many have called on the federal and state governments to intensify efforts in curbing the rising wave of insecurity on major highways.
The heartbreaking ordeal has also prompted a surge of online solidarity, with users rallying support for the victims and their families.
