The Bille Liberation Movement, (BLM) in Rivers State has sent a ‘Save Our Soul’ outcry to President Bola Tinubu and other global organizations seeking a permanent solution to the life threatening gas flaring in the area which appears to have defied containment efforts.
In the letter which was copied to many local and international organizations, the group acknowledged efforts by several organizations to reach out to the affected community, including government agencies which have visited to take samples and conduct on the spot assessment of the situation.
“This open letter is an urgent appeal concerning the persistent gas emission and gas-flaring situation occurring in Bille Kingdom, Rivers State, Nigeria, and the growing concerns regarding its consequences for human life, public health, the environment and the livelihoods of our people.
“We write with respect to all institutions and organizations that have so far shown concern and participated in efforts to understand the situation”, the letter read in part.
However, the group said the situation has gone beyond showing empathy to finding a permanent solution to the crisis.
According to the group, the situation is being brought to the attention of the international community because it believes independent international technical, environmental, humanitarian and public-health expertise should be invited to observe and support the response within their respective mandates.
The group said the appeal is not an attempt to undermine Nigeria’s sovereignty, but for cooperation, transparency, expertise and the protection of human life.

It called upon the federal and Rivers State government, Rivers State governments, relevant ministries and agencies to urgently coordinate the expected response from the international organizations.
The group requested that the results of completed investigations and laboratory analyses be communicated transparently to the affected community.
It further requested that residents receive clear instructions concerning what they should and should not do while the situation persists.
The letter dated September 25, 2026, called upon all relevant oil and gas companies operating in and around the Niger Delta to cooperate fully with regulatory authorities and legitimate investigations.
