Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, has launched a flood and erosion control project in Damaturu, the state capital.
During the launch, he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to addressing environmental challenges and promoting sustainable development.
The project, implemented by Dederi Investment Limited under the Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) initiative, aims to mitigate the impact of floods, protect farmlands, and enhance agricultural productivity.
The governor emphasised that the initiative, will go a long way to safeguard lives, and as well ensure food security, and foster economic growth across the state.
“We are committed to providing lasting solutions to erosion and flooding in our communities. This project will transform lives by enhancing agricultural productivity and ensuring the safety and well-being of our people,” he stated
ACReSAL Task Team Lead, Dr. Joy Iganye Agene, praised the Yobe State Government for taking proactive measures to address climate-related challenges.

She urged the contractor to ensure high-quality execution of the project and encouraged the involvement of youths in the project execution to create employment opportunities.
Managing Director of Dederi Investment Limited, Dr. Babagana Adam, expressed appreciation for the trust placed in the company and assured stakeholders of a transparent, efficient, and environmentally sustainable execution.
“This project represents hope and progress for the people of Damaturu. We pledge to carry it out with professionalism and efficiency to ensure a lasting solution to erosion and flooding,” Dr. Babagana said.
The flood and erosion control project is expected to provide long-term benefits to the state, reinforcing the state government’s commitment to climate resilience and sustainable development.
