Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has approved a weekl day- off and a ₦10,000 monthly transport allowance for civil servants in the state, as part of measures to cushion the impact of rising fuel prices and worsening cost of living.

The directive, which will run for three months starting from April 2026, was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Head of Service, Kehinde Onasanya.

According to Onasanya, the intervention is aimed at providing relief for workers grappling with increased transportation costs triggered by the recent hike in fuel prices.

“Towards providing succour to the teeming workforce of Ogun State in light of the hike in the pump price of fuel in the country and its attendant impact on the cost of transportation and general standard of living, the governor has approved one day off duty in a week for workers in the state,” the statement read.

He added that the weekly day-off arrangement would be implemented alongside a ₦10,000 transport allowance to be paid monthly as a palliative measure within the three-month period.

However, the head of service clarified that workers on essential duties, including medical personnel, judicial staff, teachers, security operatives, and heads of departments, would not benefit from the weekly day-off policy, though they would receive the transport allowance.

He noted that accounting officers across ministries, departments, and agencies would determine the specific day each eligible worker would observe as a day off, to ensure that government services are not disrupted.

Onasanya described the governor’s decision as timely, urging civil servants to reciprocate the gesture with improved productivity and commitment to duty.
