Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has been honoured with the traditional title of Jigon Bauchi by the Emir of Bauchi, Dr Rilwanu Sulaiman Adamu, in recognition of his contributions to democracy, peace and national unity.
The former president received the title on Thursday during a ceremony at the Emir’s Palace in Bauchi metropolis, held as part of his two-day visit to the state.
The Bauchi Emir described Jonathan as a leader committed to the promotion of peace, democratic values and national cohesion, praising his contributions to Nigeria’s development.
Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed, who led government officials and other dignitaries to the palace, expressed appreciation to the Bauchi Emirate for recognising the former president.
The governor said the conferment of the Jigon Bauchi title reflected Jonathan’s contributions to strengthening democracy and fostering national unity.
Mohammed also commended the former president’s leadership and service to Nigeria, describing the recognition as a fitting tribute to his contributions to the country.

Responding to the honour, Jonathan thanked the Emir and the people of Bauchi State for the recognition.
He pledged to uphold the laws, traditions and values of the Bauchi Emirate and to protect the dignity associated with the Jigon Bauchi title.
Jonathan said he deeply appreciated the honour, adding that it would further strengthen his commitment to promoting peace, national unity and democratic development.
The traditional recognition adds to the former president’s longstanding public profile as a statesman who has continued to participate in national and international efforts focused on peace, democracy and development after leaving office.
