Gombe State has taken a significant step towards improving maternal and child health with a new partnership involving Bloomberg Philanthropies and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
The partnership was disclosed on Wednesday, when Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, welcomed a high-level delegation from both organizations.
The move, according to him, marks the beginning of a collaboration aimed at reducing maternal mortality, enhancing healthcare service delivery, and strengthening the state’s health institutions.
Speaking at the meeting, Gov. Yahaya reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to working with global partners to transform the healthcare sector.

He emphasized that maternal and child health remains a top priority and expressed confidence that the partnership would accelerate progress in reducing preventable deaths and improving overall healthcare outcomes.
To ensure the partnership’s success, the governor directed the state’s Deputy Governor, Manassah Jatau, who also chairs the task force on primary health care, alongside the Health Commissioner, Dr. Habu Dahiru and other relevant ministries, departments, and agencies, to engage with the delegation and develop a sustainable intervention framework tailored to Gombe State’s specific needs.
The Bloomberg Philanthropies team was represented by Dr. Neena Prasad, Lead for Maternal and Reproductive Health, and Samantha Lobis, Senior Advisor on Maternal Health.
The partnership is expected to bring lasting improvements to maternal and child healthcare in Gombe State, reinforcing the government’s commitment to strengthening healthcare services and saving lives.
