Veteran Fuji musician Abdul Azeez Oladeji, popularly known as Love Azeez, has passed away at the age of 81 after a brief illness.
The death of the Fuji icon was confirmed by Adekunle Abiodun, the general secretary of the Fuji Musicians Association of Nigeria (FUMAN), who revealed that the singer died on Wednesday evening at his residence in Lagos State.
Abiodun described Love Azeez as the oldest Fuji artiste and paid tribute to his remarkable contribution to the growth of the genre.
In a Facebook post, he wrote: “So sad that, the oldest Fuji musician, Alhaji Love Azeez Adio Oladeji gave up the ghost this evening after a brief illness at the ripe age of 81 successful and fulfilled years.”
He also prayed for comfort for the late musician’s family, friends, fans, and colleagues.
Following his death, the veteran singer was buried on Thursday according to Islamic rites.
Love Azeez was regarded as one of the early figures who helped shape Fuji music during its formative years.

The genre, which originated in Lagos in the 1960s, later gained widespread popularity through pioneers including Ayinde Barrister and other influential musicians.
Throughout his decades-long career, Love Azeez remained a respected figure in Yoruba traditional music, inspiring younger generations and preserving the cultural identity of Fuji music.
His death has sparked tributes from music lovers and colleagues, who continue to celebrate his contributions to Nigeria’s entertainment industry.
The passing of the Fuji icon marks the end of an era for one of Nigeria’s most cherished traditional music pioneers.
