The political tension in Rivers State has taken a new turn as Governor Siminalayi Fubara has officially responded to a letter from the Rivers State House of Assembly, believed to be dominated by lawmakers loyal to his predecessor, Nyesom Wike. The letter, dated March 3, 2025, was said to contain resolutions by the Assembly following the Supreme Court judgment delivered on February 28, 2025.
However, in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Chief Dr. Tammy Wenike Danagogo, Governor Fubara clarified that his administration had not received any such letter as of the close of work on March 4, 2025. He further revealed that neither his office nor that of the Deputy Governor or the Accountant-General had been officially served with the correspondence, raising questions about the authenticity of the lawmakers’ claims circulating on social media.

Governor Fubara reiterated his commitment to upholding the rule of law, stating that despite his personal views on the Supreme Court judgment, he would obey and implement its decisions in accordance with due process and in the best interest of the people of Rivers State. He emphasized that his legal team was still awaiting the certified true copy of the ruling and assured residents that once received, his administration would act promptly to implement it.
This development comes amid the ongoing political standoff between the governor and lawmakers aligned with Wike, whose influence in the state remains significant. The situation has fueled widespread speculation about the next political moves in Rivers, especially as Fubara continues to assert his authority amid the growing crisis.
With tensions running high, all eyes are now on how Fubara will implement the Supreme Court’s judgment and how it will shape the political landscape of Rivers State.
