The people of Aladja community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State have honoured the member representing Udu/Ughelli South/Ughelli North Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Francis Waive, for his role in the establishment of the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Ovwian, while celebrating the appointment of their indigene, Professor Kingsley Akaba, as the medical centre’s Chief Medical Director.

Aladja Honours Francis Waive Over FMC Ovwian
At an appreciation event, community leaders described the establishment of FMC Ovwian as an important intervention in addressing healthcare needs in Udu and neighbouring communities.
They said the medical centre would improve access to medical services while also creating employment opportunities for residents.
The leaders explained that the honour was presented to Waive in recognition of what they described as his efforts to identify the healthcare needs of his constituents and work towards addressing them.
Community Celebrates Kingsley Akaba as FMC Ovwian CMD
The community also celebrated the appointment of Professor Kingsley Akaba, an indigene of Aladja, as the Chief Medical Director of FMC Ovwian.
Speaking on behalf of the community, the First Vice President-General of Aladja Community, Prof. Jomata Igben, commended Waive’s contributions to the community.
Igben cited the fencing of Aladja Grammar School, construction of classroom blocks and Waive’s role in facilitating Akaba’s appointment as CMD of the Federal Medical Centre.
“Aladja community is entirely happy. We want to show our deep appreciation to Honourable Reverend Francis Waive for the wonderful things he has been doing for Aladja community.”
He said Akaba’s appointment was particularly significant to the community.
“Principally, and that is the key, is the appointment of our son, Professor Kingsley Akaba, as the Chief Medical Director of the FMC. We are deeply grateful.”

FMC Ovwian Expected to Boost Healthcare in Udu
Community leaders said the Federal Medical Centre would play an important role in addressing healthcare challenges in Udu and surrounding communities.
They expressed optimism that the facility would expand access to medical services and contribute to the socio-economic development of the area.
The community also said the medical centre had created significant employment opportunities, with representatives putting the number of people employed at close to 1,000.
Akaba Commends Waive for FMC Initiative
Speaking at the event, Professor Kingsley Akaba said the appreciation ceremony was organised to recognise Waive’s efforts in identifying the healthcare needs of the people and championing the establishment of FMC Ovwian.
Akaba said the community was grateful to the lawmaker for bringing the medical facility to the area and supporting the appointment of an indigene as its Chief Medical Director.
“Health is wealth. This initiative is about appreciating a man who understood the needs of our people and worked to bring the FMC to Udu.”
He added that the healthcare needs of the people remained substantial and should receive continued attention.
Akaba also attributed significant employment opportunities to the establishment of the FMC, saying the facility alone had employed close to 1,000 people whose salaries are paid by the Federal Government.
Waive Thanks Aladja Community for Honour
Responding to the honour, Waive thanked the people of Aladja for the recognition, describing the gesture as exceptional and encouraging.
He said public office holders were not often openly appreciated for their contributions, making the recognition particularly meaningful to him.
“This is too much, especially the kind of job you do serving people. It is not every day you see people appreciating you, so this is very exceptional and very encouraging.”
Waive said his involvement in the establishment of FMC Ovwian was part of his responsibility to attract development and what he described as dividends of democracy to his constituents.
He also thanked the people of his constituency and those who sponsored the bill connected to the project.
“I am excited. It is the best you can do as a lawmaker. It is the peak of your career, as it were, but the better days are still ahead.”
