The federal government’s Household Prosperity and Empowerment Cash Transfer (HoPE-CT) programme provides financial support to eligible low-income and vulnerable households, with reports circulating that some beneficiaries are receiving text message alerts from Fortis Microfinance Bank and Teasy Pay regarding payments of ₦25,000.

Key Highlights

  • Some HoPE-CT beneficiaries report SMS alerts from Fortis Microfinance Bank and Teasy Pay about ₦25,000 payments.
  • These alerts could not be independently confirmed through official government sources reviewed.
  • Eligible beneficiaries are entitled to ₦75,000, paid in three instalments of ₦25,000.
  • Payments can be verified through the National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO).
  • Beneficiaries should never pay anyone or share PINs or OTPs to receive funds.

However, the latest reports of SMS alerts from the two named providers could not be independently confirmed through the official government sources reviewed.

The HoPE-CT programme is designed to provide financial assistance to eligible households to help them meet essential needs amid economic pressures.

According to the federal government’s information on the initiative, qualified beneficiaries are entitled to a total of ₦75,000, payable in three instalments of ₦25,000.

Payments are subject to beneficiary verification and the programme’s disbursement process.

How To Access Your HoPE-CT Payment

Beneficiaries who receive an SMS claiming that their payments have been processed should take the following steps:

  1. Verify the message: Check the sender and carefully read the instructions. Confirm the payment through the official National Cash Transfer Office (NCTO) website at ncto.gov.ng or the relevant state cash transfer office.
  2. Confirm the credit: Use the bank’s official mobile banking service, USSD code or customer service channel to establish whether the money has entered the account or payment wallet.
  3. Check withdrawal instructions: If the funds have been credited, follow the instructions provided by the verified bank or payment provider. Depending on the payment arrangement, withdrawal may require an issued debit card, an authorised agent or another approved banking channel.
  4. Seek assistance if payment is delayed: Beneficiaries who receive an alert but cannot access their funds should contact their payment provider or the relevant cash transfer office for clarification.

Beware Of Scams

Beneficiaries are advised to exercise caution when dealing with unsolicited messages claiming to offer access to government cash transfers.

The National Cash Transfer Office has warned about fraudulent registration portals, misleading social media posts and individuals impersonating programme officials or payment providers.

Beneficiaries should not pay anyone to release their funds, disclose their banking PINs or one-time passwords (OTPs), or submit sensitive personal information through unverified links.

They should also avoid assuming that a text message alone confirms that money is available for withdrawal.

Eligible households are encouraged to verify their payment status through authorised channels before attempting to withdraw their funds.
