The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has opened its INECPRES recruitment portal for eligible Nigerians seeking temporary ad-hoc staff positions for the 2027 general election. The application window opened at 8:00 a.m. on September 18, 2026, and is scheduled to close at midnight on November 18, 2026. Applications must be submitted through the official recruitment platform, and the process is free of charge.

Key Highlights

  • INEC’s ad-hoc staff recruitment portal is scheduled to close on November 18, 2026.
  • Available positions include Presiding Officer, Assistant Presiding Officer, Supervisory Presiding Officer, RAC Manager and RATECH.
  • Eligibility depends on the position, educational qualifications and employment status.
  • Applicants must meet political neutrality requirements and, for most roles, reside in the state they select.
  • Applications must be submitted through the official INECPRES portal.
  • INEC does not charge applicants for recruitment or placement.

Available INEC Ad-Hoc Staff Positions for 2027

INEC is accepting applications for the following temporary election-duty roles:

  1. Supervisory Presiding Officer (SPO)
  2. Registration Area Centre (RAC) Manager
  3. Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH)
  4. Presiding Officer (PO)
  5. Assistant Presiding Officer (APO)

These positions support election-day operations, including polling-unit administration, coordination of registration area centres and technical assistance.

The appointments are temporary election assignments and should not be confused with permanent employment at INEC.

Who Is Eligible to Apply for INEC Recruitment?

Eligibility varies according to the position selected. Applicants should carefully review the requirements for their preferred role before submitting an application.

General requirements include political neutrality. Applicants must not belong to a political party or have demonstrated or expressed support for a candidate or political party. Applicants are also generally required to reside in the state they select, except where different provisions apply to RATECH applicants.

Presiding Officer and Assistant Presiding Officer

According to the stated recruitment criteria, eligible applicants may include:

  • Serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members.
  • Penultimate-year students of federal or state tertiary institutions with information technology knowledge.
  • Permanent staff of ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs) who possess an Ordinary National Diploma (OND) or fall within Grade Levels 07–10.
  • INEC permanent staff on Grade Levels 07 or 08.
  • Former corps members from 2024, subject to the applicable requirements.

Applicants should confirm the specific conditions and required documents on the official portal before applying.

Supervisory Presiding Officer (SPO)

Applicants for the SPO position must generally be public or civil servants on Grade Levels 10–14.

Eligible Registration Area Officers and INEC staff within the specified grade levels may also qualify, provided they are not already engaged in other duties that conflict with the assignment.

Registration Area Centre (RAC) Manager

Applicants must generally be the head of the school or a staff member on Grade Level 07 or above at the institution or public building designated to host the Registration Area Centre.

Registration Area Technical Support (RATECH)

RATECH applicants must have an information technology background. According to the criteria published on the INECPRES portal, the role is for suitable INEC ICT staff at state or headquarters level who are not engaged in other duties.

Applicants returning from previous recruitment exercises should re-enrol under the category that matches their current status and eligibility.
