The federal government has dismissed reports claiming that the Federal Government Girls’ College (FGGC), Monguno, in Borno State, came under attack, describing the information circulating online as false and misleading.

In a statement released by the Federal Ministry of Education through its Director of Press and Public Relations, Folasade Boriowo, the federal government urged the public to disregard the reports, insisting that the school remains safe and fully operational.

The statement quoted the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, as saying that the rumours were capable of causing unnecessary anxiety among parents, guardians and members of the public.

According to the minister, there has been no security breach at the college, while all students, staff and boarding facilities remain secure and accounted for.

He added that teaching, learning and other school activities have continued without disruption in a peaceful environment.

Alausa reaffirmed that protecting students and ensuring a safe learning environment in all Federal Government Colleges remains a key priority of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

He explained that the FGGC Monguno operates under established security measures designed to safeguard students, staff and school infrastructure.

The minister also clarified that the individuals reportedly involved in the incident being referenced on social media were not students of FGGC Monguno.

He said those affected were remedial students outside the institution, noting that the Borno State Government had already taken appropriate steps to address their welfare and ensure their safety.

The ministry cautioned journalists, bloggers, social media users and online publishers against sharing unverified reports, stressing the importance of confirming information through credible and official channels before publication.

It warned that the spread of inaccurate information could fuel unnecessary panic, erode public confidence and undermine ongoing efforts to maintain secure learning environments across the country.

The minister further appealed to parents and guardians to remain calm, assuring them that there is no security threat at FGGC Monguno.

He reiterated the federal government’s commitment to working closely with security agencies, state governments and school authorities to strengthen safety measures and protect students in all federal government colleges nationwide.
