The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has commenced an investigation into a viral video showing aviation security personnel manually searching a female passenger’s luggage and confiscating tins of milk and sardines at Osubi Airport, officially known as Alfred Diete-Spiff Airport, Warri, Delta State.
The incident, which has sparked widespread reactions on social media, allegedly occurred during routine security screening before the passenger boarded her flight.
In the now-viral video, the woman questioned why Aviation Security (AVSEC) officials opted for a manual search instead of scanning her luggage with the airport’s screening equipment.
She also challenged the decision to confiscate her canned milk and sardines after officials reportedly claimed the items could spill inside her bag during the flight.
The disagreement soon escalated into a heated exchange, drawing the attention of other passengers within the airport terminal.
Reacting to the public backlash, FAAN confirmed that it has launched a formal investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

In a statement issued by its Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Henry Agbebire, the authority said the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Mrs. Olubunmi Kuku, had directed an immediate probe into the conduct of the security personnel involved.
According to FAAN, the investigation will establish whether the actions of the officers complied with the agency’s operational procedures, security protocols, customer service standards and code of conduct.
The authority stressed that any personnel found to have acted outside established regulations would face appropriate administrative and disciplinary measures in line with the public service rules and FAAN’s internal disciplinary procedures.
FAAN reiterated its commitment to maintaining high standards of aviation security while ensuring that passengers are treated with professionalism, dignity and respect throughout security screening processes.
The authority also assured the public that the findings of the investigation would guide any necessary actions to strengthen accountability and improve service delivery across Nigeria’s airports.
