A retired Deputy Inspector General of Police, Alhaji Atiku Babangida, has called for the immediate arrest of the Deputy Governor of Zamfara State, Alhaji Hassan Nasiha.
He accused the Deputy Governor of defending a notorious bandits’ leader, Bello Turji.
The Deputy Governor, Alhaji Hassan Nasiha, on Sunday, during a conference organised by the Students Union of Medina University, Saudi Arabia, reportedly declared that the notorious bandits’ leader, Bello Turji had repented and embraced peace talks.
Reacting, Babangida wondered why the killing in Zamfara had continued unabated, yet “a highly placed Deputy Chief Security Officer in the State came out publicly defending the bandits’ leader.”
According to him, “something must have joined the deputy governor with the bandits’ leader, and until he (deputy governor) is arrested, the security bond between the two would not unfold.

“So many security personnel, innocent Nigerians have been killed by this bandits’ leader. Others were dehumanized, while several other housewives were raped by these bandits whose leader is Tunji. A deputy governor of a State is claiming that the bandits’ leader has repented. Meaning what?”
The ex-DIG, while speaking with Trumpet Newspapers in Kaduna on Sunday evening, noted that unless the security agents arrest those fueling bandits’ attacks across the country, banditry and other forms of criminality would not stop.
He insisted that the perpetrators must have powerful people backing them.
