The Commissioner of Police in Enugu State, CP Mamman Giwa, has issued a stern warning to Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) and other supervisory officers, declaring that they will be held personally accountable for any misconduct, corruption or abuse committed by personnel under their command.

CP Giwa delivered the warning on Thursday during the Enugu State Police Command’s Monthly Strategic Conference held at the Senior Police Officers’ Mess, Agbani Road, Enugu.
He directed Area Commanders, DPOs and other supervisory officers to strengthen command and control across their jurisdictions, stressing that accountability would begin from leadership.
According to him, the directive aligns with the operational standards recently issued by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, through strategic engagements with senior police officers.
The police commissioner charged officers to uphold professionalism, integrity and respect for citizens’ rights in the discharge of their duties.
“Corruption, extortion and any form of abuse of citizens’ rights will not be tolerated. Supervisory officers will be held vicariously liable for such misconduct,” Giwa warned.
He also instructed Area Commanders, DPOs, the Head of the Distress Response Squad (DRS), the Commander and Sub-Commanders of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), and other operational commanders to intensify visibility policing and sustain aggressive operations against criminal elements.
“There is a need to intensify the identification and raid of criminal hideouts across the state,” he said.
CP Giwa further tasked the Command’s Intelligence Department and other intelligence officers to strengthen intelligence gathering and support proactive crime-fighting operations.

The strategic conference was attended by Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners, Area Commanders, DPOs and heads of various units and departments within the command.
The programme featured step-down training sessions led by DCP Hope Okereke, Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID), and CSP Chukwuka Odum, Officer-in-Charge of the VCRU Anti-Kidnapping Sub-Unit.
Participants also received an enlightenment lecture on the Liquor Act, delivered by the Command’s Legal Officer, CSP Justice Attah.
