The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bayelsa State has criticised the lavish celebration of the state’s 30th anniversary, describing the festivities as insensitive to the prevailing hunger, poverty and unemployment confronting many residents.
According to the opposition party, the celebration comes at a time when many Bayelsans are struggling with economic hardship and limited employment opportunities, while several government projects remain abandoned across the state.

The Bayelsa Tower Hotel, located in the heart of Yenagoa, has remained uncompleted for 22 years despite the public resources committed to the project, the PDP said.
The party described the abandoned hotel project as a symbol of the challenges surrounding unfinished public infrastructure in the state. It also accused the government of neglecting several other abandoned projects while committing significant resources to anniversary celebrations.
According to a statement signed by the Bayelsa State PDP Publicity Secretary, Ikaebimo Markt, the state’s 30th anniversary should provide an opportunity for reflection on the living conditions of its citizens.
The PDP said Bayelsa deserves more than anniversary celebrations, urging the government to focus on accountability, the completion of abandoned projects, job creation and economic opportunities for residents.
