Secretary General, Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Dr Mohammed Sanusi, has been conferred the title Dan Bauran Gwandu in recognition of his contributions and developmental services for Gwandu Emirate in Kebbi State.
The honour was bestowed on Sanusi by His Royal Highness, the Emir of Gwandu, Major-General Muhammadu Ilyasu Bashar, CFR, mni.
According to the Emir of Gwandu, Sanusi has contributed immensely to the growth of Gwandu and Nigeria likewise which the Emirate deemed necessary to continue to tap from his wealth of knowledge and experience.
Major General Bashar noted that after the conferment, the NFF Secretary-General will be required to deliberate on issues and partake in the emirate’s activities, adding that he will be invited by the emirate council when needed.
According to the NFF Director of Communications, Ademola Olajire, the development was conveyed in a letter addressed to Dr Sanusi on the Emir’s behalf by Ibrahim Ahmad Gwandu, Secretary of Gwandu Emirate Council.
The letter read in part: “This honour is accorded to you in recognition and appreciation of your services and contribution to the development of Gwandu Emirate, Kebbi State and the country in general.
The Emirate Council hopes to continue to benefit from your wealth of experience, foresight and wisdom. As a title holder, you are required to actively participate in our activities. Similarly, you will be invited from time to time by His Royal Highness the Emir of Gwandu for consultations as the need arises.”
The NFF commented that Sanusi, who already holds the title of Danmasani Wajeke of Wammako town in Sokoto State, served as Director of Competitions of the Nigeria Football Federation before he was appointed the General Secretary in March 2015.
He holds a doctorate degree in sports administration from the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and is also a FIFA and CAF Match Commissioner.
