The Egyptian government has released updated visa guidelines for 2026, outlining countries eligible for visa-free entry, visa on arrival, and those requiring security clearance before travelling.

According to the updated guidelines published by the Egyptian Consulate General, passport holders from the United Kingdom, the United States, and European Union member states can enter the resort towns of Sharm El Sheikh, Dahab, Nuweiba, and Taba without a visa for stays of up to 15 days.

Travellers from these countries who intend to visit other parts of Egypt, including Cairo, Giza, and Luxor, are eligible to obtain a visa on arrival at any Egyptian port of entry.

Other countries whose citizens qualify for visa on arrival include Australia, Canada, Croatia, Georgia, Japan, New Zealand, Norway, North Macedonia, and South Korea.

However, Egypt maintains stricter entry requirements for citizens of Afghanistan, Ethiopia, Iran, Mali, Niger, Syria, Palestine, and Israel, as well as holders of British Travel Documents.

Applicants from these countries must obtain security clearance before a visa can be issued, a process the consulate says may take up to three months.

Nigeria is not included among the countries eligible for visa-free entry or visa on arrival in Egypt.

As a result, Nigerian passport holders must apply for a standard tourist visa through an Egyptian embassy or consulate before travelling.
