Residents of Ebu Community in Oshimili North Local Government Area of Delta State have appealed to the Federal and Delta State governments to address what they describe as years of neglect, poor infrastructure and lack of basic amenities in the community.

The residents said the condition of the community’s roads, schools and healthcare facilities has worsened over the years, with recent heavy rainfall cutting off a major access route and further disrupting movement and economic activities.

Ebu residents appeal for urgent government intervention over deteriorating infrastructure.

Heavy rainfall reportedly cut off a major access road to the community.

Residents identify the Ebu-Ezi-Ukala Road as a major infrastructure concern.

The community says poor roads are affecting farming, trading, education and healthcare access.

Residents also raised concerns about electricity, schools, healthcare facilities and security.

They called for the reconstruction of the Ebu-Illah-Ogbolu Road and Ebu-Ezi-Ukala Road.

Ebu residents lament years of neglect
Residents of the Ebu community in Delta State said they have supported successive governments through participation in elections and have repeatedly looked forward to promised development projects.

However, they said many of the expected benefits of government have yet to reach the community.

Residents pointed to deteriorating roads, ageing school buildings, inadequate healthcare facilities, lack of electricity and other infrastructure gaps as some of the challenges confronting the agrarian community.

They said the situation has created difficulties for farmers, traders, students and other residents who depend on the available infrastructure for their daily activities.

Ebu-Ezi-Ukala Road becomes major concern
One of the major concerns raised by residents is the condition of the Ebu-Ezi-Ukala Road, which they described as being in a deplorable state.

According to community members, prolonged deterioration of the road has affected transportation and access to markets, schools and healthcare services.

They said the poor road condition has also made movement difficult, particularly during the rainy season.

The residents appealed to relevant authorities to reconstruct the road and improve connectivity between Ebu and neighbouring communities.

Residents raise security concerns
Some residents also expressed concerns about security in the area, alleging that criminals take advantage of difficult terrain and poor accessibility to carry out unlawful activities.

They specifically mentioned concerns about suspected herders and other criminal elements operating around difficult-to-access areas.

The allegations have not been independently verified, and residents called on security agencies and government authorities to strengthen security in the community.

Community seeks better schools, healthcare and electricity
Beyond the roads, community leaders and residents said Ebu needs urgent attention in other areas of infrastructure.

They cited the deteriorating condition of schools, inadequate healthcare facilities, lack of electricity and the absence of other basic amenities as challenges affecting the community’s development.

According to them, repeated appeals and promises over the years have not resulted in the level of development they expect.

The residents said their demand extends beyond road construction to broader government attention and improved access to basic services.

Ebu residents demand reconstruction of two roads
The community appealed to the Federal Government, Delta State Government and other relevant authorities to intervene in the deteriorating infrastructure situation.

They specifically called for the reconstruction of the Ebu-Illah-Ogbolu Road and Ebu-Ezi-Ukala Road, alongside improvements in education, healthcare, electricity and security.

One community stakeholder said residents had waited for decades for visible development.

“We have waited for decades. What we need now are visible actions and not more promises,” the stakeholder said.

The residents warned that continued neglect could worsen economic and social difficulties in the area.

Residents want development ahead of 2027 elections
With political activities expected to intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, residents said they want political leaders to focus on tangible development rather than campaign promises.

They said improved infrastructure and better living conditions would be important issues in their engagement with government officials and political leaders.

For the residents, the immediate priority is government intervention to restore road access and address the broader infrastructure challenges confronting Ebu Community.
