The Ebonyi State Government has taken delivery of advanced medical equipment worth billions of naira, earmarked for the state’s 13 general hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The equipment, including delivery beds, operating beds, and specialized hospital beds, is part of a comprehensive plan to improve the healthcare sector in Ebonyi.
Inspecting the newly arrived equipment at a storage facility, Dr. Moses Ekuma, Ebonyi State Commissioner for Health, disclosed that this marks the fourth tranche of medical supplies procured under Governor Francis Nwifuru’s administration. He emphasized that the state government is committed to addressing the pressing needs of its healthcare system.
“We’re receiving the fourth tranche of equipment, totaling approximately 26 containers of life-saving supplies,” said Dr. Ekuma. “With this acquisition, we’ve tackled one of the major challenges in the health sector—availability of critical medical tools and consumables.”
Dr. Ekuma noted that Ebonyi’s healthcare facilities face challenges with power supply, an issue the government aims to resolve by installing solar power systems across hospitals. This initiative will ensure uninterrupted service and support for critical procedures, especially during power outages.
“We also plan to digitalize the hospitals with an electronic medical records system for seamless communication between facilities, enabling efficient patient management,” Dr. Ekuma added. “We aim to bring specialized healthcare services closer to Ebonyians, making it easier for hospitals to work in unison.”

The latest delivery includes essential hospital furniture, such as delivery and operating beds with various functionalities, while more specialized machinery, including MRI and CT scanners, are still being expected.
“This equipment will enable us to elevate our healthcare standards and meet global best practices, so Ebonyians can access quality healthcare within their communities,” said Dr. Ekuma.
The Commissioner for Information and State Orientation, Jude Okpor, praised Governor Nwifuru’s dedication to advancing the healthcare sector. He called on Ebonyi residents to protect these new facilities, which he emphasized are part of the administration’s goal to provide world-class healthcare to the state.
“What we’re seeing here today is a testament to the administration’s commitment to fulfilling the People’s Charter of Needs, with a clear focus on healthcare,” Okpor stated. “Governor Nwifuru is not only providing the necessary medical equipment but also recruiting skilled personnel to ensure sustainable healthcare for Ebonyians.” he added
