The Non-Indigenes residing in Delta State have expressed their confidence in Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, commending his inclusive governance and remarkable developmental strides since assuming office nearly two years ago.
During a solidarity visit to Government House, Asaba, on March 12, 2025, the group presented Governor Oborevwori with the ‘Most All-Inclusive Governor Award 2025’, recognizing his efforts in creating opportunities for all residents of the state, regardless of ethnic background.
Speaking on behalf of the 150-member delegation representing various ethnic groups, including Igbo, Hausa, Fulani, Yoruba, South-South, and Middle Belt communities, Prof. Pius Chinwuba Ike lauded the Governor’s achievements in infrastructural development, human capital growth, education, healthcare, security, and the overall welfare of Deltans and residents alike.
Prof. Ike highlighted the Governor’s numerous accolades, which include:THISDAY/Arise Television Governor of the Year 2024, Silverbird Governor of the Year 2023, New Telegraph Governor of the Year 2024 (Infrastructure Category), $400,000 Bill and Melinda Gates Award for Primary Healthcare Infrastructure.
“Leadership is not just about policies and projects but about the compassion and fairness extended to all, regardless of background. Governor Oborevwori has demonstrated this inclusiveness in governance, making Delta a home for all,” Prof. Ike stated.

He further revealed that the Non-Indigenes in the state had resolved to play an active role in the governance of Delta and mobilize support for the Governor’s developmental initiatives. Additionally, he requested that the group be officially recognized as a pressure group and incorporated into the Governor’s campaign organization for the 2027 elections, ensuring full participation as stakeholders.
In his response, Governor Oborevwori expressed gratitude for the solidarity visit and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to fostering a peaceful and conducive environment for all residents to thrive.
“Delta State is home to people from all walks of life, and I deeply appreciate your contributions to our economy, culture, and society. Your support has been invaluable, and I assure you that my administration will continue to prioritize inclusivity and development,” he said.
The Governor acknowledged the strong economic presence of non-indigenes, particularly those from the South-East, who conduct business in Onitsha but reside in Delta State. He also recalled their unwavering support during his campaign and urged them to extend the same goodwill to the Federal Government.
“Elections have come and gone, and it is time for governance. I appeal to you to continue supporting my administration and also rally behind the government at the center. There is hope for Nigeria, and as the economy improves, we will all benefit,” he stated.
