Delta Queens Hockey Club head coach, Ade Jacobs, has expressed confidence that his side will reach the final of the ongoing 2026 Nigeria Hockey Super League despite dropping points in their second match of the competition.
Speaking after Sunday’s 1-1 draw against South West Hockey Club of Lagos at the National Hockey Pitch of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja, Jacobs said his team remains focused on improving and achieving its season objective.
The Delta Queens coach admitted that his players fell below their usual standards against the Lagos side but expressed optimism that they would bounce back in their next fixture.
“It has been fine so far. We won our first match 5-0, and this second match ended in a 1-1 draw.
“Well, it’s one of those things that happens sometimes in matches because most of my girls looked a little bit heavy. I don’t know why.
“We intend to improve on that. In our next match against IGP Babes on Tuesday by 11 a.m., they will come out better, and I can assure you of that,” Jacobs said.
The coach recalled that Delta Queens finished third in last year’s league and insisted the team is determined to go one step further this season.

“Last season, we finished in third place. This season, our target is to play in the final match. We just have to be in the final stage,” he added.
Jacobs also commended the organisers for the smooth conduct of the competition, describing the tournament as well organised.
Delta Queens began their campaign in impressive fashion with a commanding 5-0 victory over Yobe Desert Queens before being held to a 1-1 draw by South West Hockey Club in their second outing.
Seven teams are competing in the women’s category of the 2026 Nigeria Hockey Super League, namely Kada Queens, Plateau Queens, Delta Queens, Yobe Desert Queens, IGP Babes, South West Hockey Club and Edo Queens.
Reigning champions Kada Queens are defending the women’s title, while Kada Stars are the holders of the men’s championship.
The 2026 Nigeria Hockey Super League, which began on June 26, will run until July 5 in Abuja.
