The Delta State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has accused the state government of supporting what it described as an “illegal and unconstitutional” occupation of its state secretariat by the All Progressives Congress (APC), demanding the immediate eviction of the party from the premises.

In a statement, the PDP said the secretariat located on WAEC Road, off Mariam Babangida Way in Asaba, is a legally acquired property belonging to the party, with all documentation bearing its name and identity. The party stressed that the facility was established long before the APC was formed.

PDP Publicity Secretary, Chief Kingsley Akpos Oturubo, described the development as unprecedented, noting that the APC already operates a separate office on Anwai Road.

“Where in this country does a political party operate two secretariats in one state? Chief Solomon Areyinka must understand that his defection does not transfer PDP assets to the APC,” the statement read.

The party further alleged that the Delta State Government was complicit in the situation, warning that the Certificate of Occupancy for the property remains valid and has not been revoked. It insisted it would pursue all legal options to reclaim the secretariat.

Linking the dispute to broader political tensions, the PDP claimed the move was part of efforts to weaken structures associated with its national leadership ahead of the 2027 elections.

Describing the situation as a threat to public order, the party called on security agencies to intervene and prevent escalation. It warned that both the APC leadership in the state and the government would be held accountable for any breakdown of law and order.

The PDP also alleged that some former members who defected to the APC in 2025 were still in control of its bank accounts, describing the act as fraudulent and calling on anti-graft agencies to take action.

While urging its supporters to remain calm, the party maintained that political pluralism must be preserved, warning against any attempt to impose a one-party structure in the state.
