Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has issued a stern warning to government officials, emphasizing that his administration will not tolerate the certification of uncompleted or poorly executed projects for payment. Speaking on Sunday during a retirement thanksgiving service for Mrs. Joy Enwa, the Permanent Secretary and Accountant-General of the Delta State Ministry of Finance, at the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Asaba, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring accountability and quality in governance.
Governor Oborevwori expressed his administration’s dedication to delivering value for every project undertaken by the state, stressing that any deviation from this standard would be met with disciplinary action. He disclosed that two engineers had already been queried for endorsing payments for uncompleted projects, signaling his zero-tolerance approach to malpractice.
Addressing the congregation, the governor linked his remarks to the theme of the homily, “The Choice of a Good Name,” urging civil servants to uphold integrity and avoid actions that could jeopardize their careers. He highlighted his administration’s efforts to prioritize the welfare of civil servants, citing initiatives such as transport allowances following the removal of fuel subsidies, the payment of promotion arrears amounting to over N5.6 billion, and the early implementation of the New National Minimum Wage.
Despite these measures, the governor expressed frustration at the actions of some civil servants, vowing to publicly reveal the names of erring officials in the coming week after due process has been followed. He reaffirmed his commitment to rewarding diligence and integrity while holding those who violate ethical standards accountable.
