An Ado-Ekiti, Chief Magistrates’ Court has ordered that a 63 year-old man, be remanded in Ado-Ekiti Correctional Centre over alleged defilement of an eight year-old girl.
The police charged the defendant, Akin Aderiye, whose address was not provided, with defilement, contending that the alleged offence contravened the provisions of Section 31 of the Child Right Laws of Ekiti State, 2012.
The Chief Magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi, did not take the plea of the suspect for want in jurisdiction.
He therefore advised the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution (DPP), for legal advice.
Earlier, the Prosecution Counsel, Insp Oriyomi Akinwale told the court that the Aderiye committed the offence on Feb.10 in Esure-Ekiti, Ido/Osi Local Government Area of Ekiti State.
Akinwale alleged that the suspect sexually assaulted an eight year-old girl.
He disclosed that the minor told the police that the suspect lured her to his house on the pretence that he was going to give her some money.
The prosecutor therefore urged the court to remand the defendant in the correctional centre, pending further hearing.
After all pleas, the Chief Magistrate adjourned the case until March 21 for mention.
