Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah has received the members of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendment led by the Senate Deputy Chief Whip- Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi in the Government House, Enugu ahead the South East Zonal Public Hearing on the further alteration of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria schedule for July 4- 5, 2025.

Senator Nwebonyi appreciated Governor Mbah for the warm reception accorded to the Committee noting that the regional engagement is necessitated from the fact that there are perceived inadequacies in the 1999 constitution being a product of military dictatorship which does not represent all the interests of all the segments of the country especially in the areas of imbalance in state creation, state police and other critical sections of the constitution.

He reiterated the State Government’s strong support for key constitutional reforms that will promote equity, security and unity across the country adding that he is in support of state police, rotational presidency and the creation of additional state in the south east to be at par with other regions of the country.

The delegation is made up of some senators from the south east including, Orji Uzor Kalu, Enyinnaya Abaribe, Osita Ngwu, Anthony Ani among others. It’s expected that the Public Hearing would have far-reaching benefits for the people of the South East and Nigeria in general.
