The authority of the College of Agriculture, Science and Technology, Jalingo. Taraba state has confirmed to have apprehended a suspected criminal who has been terrorising the institution.
The arrest, which our correspondent learnt took place on Friday night, was said to have been made possible by the security personnel of the college.
Confirming the arrest on Saturday, the Provost of the College, Yakubu Garjila, said the suspect was arrested at about 7 pm yesterday (Friday) in the college premises.
The college security personnel, who according to have been working tirelessly round the clock, made the arrest.
Applauding the colleague’s security, he said the suspect had been handed over to the police for proper interrogation.
Reeking out how valuables belonging to both staff and students have been disappearing from the school premises following the ill activities of hoodlums, he begs the state government to come to the aid of the institution.
He said the institution is in dire need of helping hands from the government. He enumerated needs including the construction of a perimeter fence in the school to protect it from invaders.
Some of the students who spoke to our reporter in the state also aligned their weights to that of the provost by calling on the government to help in building fences around the school.
The students who claimed to have been sleeping in the school hostels with their eyes widely opened, were of the view that perimeter fencing would go a long way to prevent or reduce the ills presently perpetrated by the underworld men in the school premises.
Though the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, could not be reached for confirmation at the time of filing this report, a senior police officer from the Ardo-Kola division where the institution is located confirmed to be aware of the giant stride made by the college security personnel.
