Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt-Gen Faruk Yahaya, has urged retired army officers not to rest until the security challenges in the country are brought to an end in favour of the military and Nigeria.

The Army Chief gave the charge at a Regimental Dinner Night arranged in honour of retired officers in the 81 Division Nigerian Army.

Gen Yahaya, who was represented by General Officer Commanding 81 Division NA, Maj Gen Umar Thama Musa, noted that the Army is still open to their invaluable contributions towards attaining her constitutional mandate and would always welcome their support.

Gen Yahaya further said that they are welcome to attend functions and sessions to continue to extend their fellowship to the colleagues they were leaving behind in service.

According to General Yahaya, “retirement is an inevitable phase in the life of every military personnel as it marks the complement of active service to the nation.”

He, therefore, commended the retired officers for the remarkable achievements they made while in active service to the Nation through the Army.

The Army Chief assured them that the Army will remain grateful for the services they rendered in the defence of their fatherland. Adding that the celebration should also be taken as an avenue to thank God for the grace to render the distinguished and meritorious service to the Nation in the quest to restore peace and harmony to our beloved country.

Earlier, the President Mess Committee, Brig Gen Danlami Ndahi, while welcoming the retired officers and guests to 81 Division, congratulated the retired officers and their families on behalf of the entire Division on their successful and meritorious retirement from the Army.

He added that retirement marks the successful complement of active service to the nation.

Col Mustapha Anka (rtd) while delivering the vote of thanks on behalf of the retired officers said the COAS has laid a well-appreciated landmark. He thanked the Army for giving them a sense of belonging and for appreciating their sacrifices and service to the Nation through the Nigerian Army.

The retired officers honoured include Col Moses Abolanle, Col Igwe Ibemere, Col Mustapha Abubakar Anka, Col Francis Ekoyo, Col Folarin Orolugbagbe and Lt Col Ceril Chukwuma Okafor.

Others are Lt Col Moses Babuba, Lt Col Abong Leku, Maj Gabriel Ogwo, Maj Rilwanu Ishida, Maj Bisi Olajide, Maj Paul Akpan and Lt Emmanuel Adejoh.

The high point of the occasion was the presentation of plaques and souvenirs to the retired officers.
