Fresh insight has emerged into the long-debated Cause Of Abacha’s Death, with a former Assistant Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Dennis Amachree, dismissing longstanding claims that Nigeria’s former Head of State, General Sani Abacha, was poisoned. According to him, investigations conducted after the military ruler’s sudden death in 1998 concluded that Abacha died of a heart attack.

Key Highlights:

  • Former DSS official Dennis Amachree rejects claims that Sani Abacha was poisoned.
  • Investigators reportedly found no evidence of foul play in Abacha’s death.
  • Witness statements and available evidence pointed to a fatal heart attack.
  • A woman reportedly present before Abacha’s death was questioned during investigations.
  • Amachree says the findings support natural causes rather than conspiracy theories.
  • Debate over the Cause Of Abacha’s Death continues nearly three decades later.

Speaking during an interview, Amachree stated that all available evidence gathered by investigators at the time pointed to natural causes rather than assassination or poisoning.

General Sani Abacha, who ruled Nigeria as military Head of State from 1993 until his death on June 8, 1998, died unexpectedly, triggering widespread speculation and numerous conspiracy theories. Among the most persistent claims was that the former leader had been poisoned.

However, Amachree insisted that investigators thoroughly examined the circumstances surrounding the incident and found no evidence to support allegations of poisoning.

According to him, a woman who was reportedly with Abacha shortly before his death was questioned extensively during the investigation and provided what he described as the only direct eyewitness account of the events leading up to the former ruler’s final moments.

The former DSS official revealed that the woman immediately denied any involvement in Abacha’s death when she was interviewed by investigators. He added that her testimony was found to be credible and consistent with other findings obtained during the probe.

Amachree explained that based on the witness account and other evidence reviewed, investigators concluded that Abacha suffered a fatal heart attack.

He further noted that the woman reportedly did not initially realize anything unusual had occurred until it later became apparent that the former military ruler had died.

According to Amachree, neither witness statements nor other investigative findings indicated any signs of poisoning, reinforcing the conclusion that Abacha died from natural causes.

His comments have reignited public discussion about one of Nigeria’s most controversial political events, as debates over the Cause Of Abacha’s Death continue nearly three decades after the former military leader passed away.

The renewed remarks are expected to fuel fresh conversations among historians, political analysts, and Nigerians who have long questioned the circumstances surrounding Abacha’s sudden death, which remains one of the most discussed episodes in the country’s political history.
