Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Burna Boy has made history as the first African artist to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 Songs chart, sparking widespread celebration across X.
The historic feat was achieved with “Dai Dai,” his FIFA World Cup collaboration with Colombian pop icon Shakira.
The song also climbed to the top of the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart, marking another major milestone for the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer.
In the United States, “Dai Dai” continued its impressive run by soaring 12 places to a new peak of No. 55 on the Billboard Hot 100, further strengthening Burna Boy’s position as one of Africa’s biggest global music exports.
It was also a remarkable week for Nigerian music as Grammy-winning singer Tems reached a new career-best position on the Billboard Hot 100.
Her hit single “What You Need” climbed to No. 39 in its 15th week on the chart after previously topping both the Billboard Mainstream R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay chart and the Mediabase Urban Radio Airplay chart, making her the first solo African artist to achieve the feat.
The achievements by Burna Boy and Tems have once again highlighted the growing global dominance of Afrobeats and African music.
