The House of Representatives has passed the amended Electoral Bill after it removed clause (84) that mandates all political parties to stick to direct primaries in the conduct of primary elections.
The Green Chambers of the National Assembly on Thursday had to remove the clause President Buhari highlighted as his reason for not assenting to the Bill last year and passed it Thursday, January 20, 2022.
Meanwhile, the Senate including the options of indirect and consensus primaries to the direct primaries option only permitted by clause (84), revised the clause to give political parties the independence to choose their mode of primaries.
Both chambers of the National Assembly had to work on clause (84) to enable President Muhammandu Buhari assent to the Electoral Bill (Amendment).
