Victor Boniface has impressed for Bayer Leverkusen, maintaining their unbeaten season start in a thrilling 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich. This result keeps them atop the German Bundesliga standings, edging out the champions on goal difference.

Despite being named Bundesliga’s Rookie and Player of the Month for August, Boniface faced the league’s top team in just his fourth appearance. Bayern Munich wasted no time, launching an attack from the first whistle. They found success within seven minutes as Harry Kane netted his fourth goal of the season with a simple header.

Bayer Leverkusen pressed for an equalizer and succeeded in the 24th minute when left wing-back Alejandro Grimaldo beautifully converted a free-kick for his first club goal. Boniface thought he had put his team ahead, but an offside flag dashed his hopes. Still, he continued to trouble Bayern’s defense, nearly scoring an incredible long-range shot early in the second half.

Bayern Munich appeared to secure victory in the 86th minute, thanks to a late goal from Leon Goretzka after a brilliant delivery from substitute Mathys Tel. Two minutes later, Boniface missed a crucial chance.

In a dramatic turn of events, Bayer Leverkusen was awarded a late penalty after Alphonso Davies fouled Jonas Hofmann, confirmed by VAR. Substitute Exequiel Palacios coolly converted the spot-kick in added time to level the score.

However, Upamecano appeared to have scored late for Bayern Munich but was denied by the offside flag, resulting in a level finish to the game.
