A senior Nigerian Army officer, Brigadier-General O. Braimah, has been killed in an ആക്രമ by insurgents linked to Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province in Borno State, underscoring ongoing security challenges in the North-East region.
The officer, who served as Brigade Commander of the Joint Task Force in Benesheikh, Kaga Local Government Area, was among those killed during a coordinated assault on Thursday targeting both military formations and nearby communities.
Reports indicate that the insurgents launched simultaneous attacks in Pulka, located in Gwoza Local Government Area, and Benesheikh in Kaga LGA, resulting in multiple casualties, including civilians, security personnel, and some of the attackers.
Chairman of Kaga LGA, Zanna Ajimi, confirmed the incident, stating that the brigade commander was among those who lost their lives during the attack on the military base.

Local sources also reported heavy gunfire as insurgents stormed the area in large numbers, overwhelming security positions before reinforcements could respond.

Security analysts warn that renewed coordinated attacks signal evolving tactics by insurgent groups, raising concerns about the need for enhanced intelligence, logistics, and operational strategies to contain the situation.
