Knowledge for Great Green Wall Action (KSGGWA) has called for the submission of advocacy projects focused on environmental sustainability.

This initiative targets stakeholders across various community-level organisations, civil society, and non-governmental organisations.

As an incentive for participation, the organisation is offering a winning prize of $30,000 to the most impactful project.

The initiative, introduced in 2023, is a comprehensive programme spearheaded by the Center for International Forestry Research and World Agroforestry (CIFOR-ICRAF) in collaboration with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).

The programme is a direct response to the issues outlined in the Great Green Wall evaluation conducted in 2020 and is designed to catalyze significant advancements in the region’s environmental and ecological initiatives.

the organisation aims to empower key stakeholders involved in the Great Green Wall efforts by enhancing their knowledge management capabilities and sharing mechanisms.

The programme emphasises the development of robust learning and data-sharing platforms that facilitate dialogue at both national and regional levels.

Furthermore, the body is committed to funding innovative solutions that address environmental challenges and strengthening relevant policies and institutions.

By enhancing the capacities of national and regional Great Green Wall agencies, the organisation serves as a crucial backbone for various EU-funded projects related to the Great Green Wall initiative at the national level.

More specifically, it seeks to address critical drivers of land degradation, including socioeconomic factors, such as gender equity, economic viability, and security, as well as ecological challenges.

The programme focuses on improving interventions relevant to the Great Green Wall and aims to establish robust monitoring systems for activities undertaken by key stakeholders.

Additionally, the group promotes scaling sustainable land management approaches that are tailored to both pastoral and cropping systems, ensuring that these strategies are adaptable to local contexts.

The programme also strives to create an enabling environment by tackling governance challenges and improving policy frameworks.

By leveraging evidence-based strategies, it aims to implement effective interventions on a large scale, ultimately contributing to the overarching goals of the Great Green Wall initiative.
