In a bold move that has captured national attention, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has clarified his recent pointed remarks about President Bola Tinubu’s administration. Speaking before the Bauchi State Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, the governor emphasized that his criticism was driven by a desire to advocate for the people, not to sow discord.

Governor Mohammed had previously criticized several of President Tinubu’s policies, expressing concern that they were not in the best interest of Nigerians. He particularly took issue with the President’s August 4th speech, which called on protesters to suspend their actions in favor of dialogue, describing the address as “very empty.”

Addressing the controversy that followed his remarks, Governor Mohammed explained that his intention was to highlight the struggles of ordinary Nigerians and to push the federal government to address pressing issues. He asserted that his criticism was meant to be constructive, not divisive, and was aimed at encouraging both the federal and state governments to be more responsive to the needs of the people.

The governor’s comments have sparked significant debate, drawing reactions from political figures such as former Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara and Senator Shehu Buba, who have criticized his stance. Despite the backlash, Governor Mohammed has stood by his words, arguing that his critique serves as a necessary wake-up call for leaders at all levels to address issues of governance more effectively.

Furthermore, Governor Mohammed highlighted the shared responsibility of both the federal and state governments in ensuring good governance. He urged his fellow governors to take accountability for their roles and to work towards the successful implementation of national policies, rather than shifting blame onto the federal government.

Governor Mohammed concluded by reaffirming that his criticism was not politically motivated, but rooted in a commitment to accountability and good governance. He expressed gratitude for the ongoing support from his council members and thanked them for their loyalty and dedication over the years.
