A non-governmental organisation, Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI), has confirmed that it secured the conviction of a 41-year-old man, Endurance Ime Sandy, who was found guilty of raping an 11-year-old girl in Calabar, Cross River State.

The sentence was delivered by Family Court II, presided over by Hon. Justice Blessing Egwu, who found the defendant guilty and imposed a life imprisonment penalty.
According to James Ibor, Esq., Principal Counsel of BRCI, the organisation has continued to strengthen its advocacy for women and children’s rights, securing six convictions within the past six months alone in Cross River State.

He commended all stakeholders involved in the case, including the Nigerian Army (13 Brigade, Calabar), the Nigeria Police Force, and the Cross River State Ministry of Justice, particularly the Attorney-General, Etubom Ededem Ani.
Ibor also praised the staff and volunteers of Basic Rights Counsel Initiative for their dedication throughout the investigation and trial process, noting their support for both investigators and the child survivor.
“We also extend our gratitude to the Cross River State Government for its unwavering commitment to protecting children and ensuring their safety,” he said.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to pursuing justice for victims of sexual violence and strengthening legal protection for vulnerable groups across the state.
