  • Application has been filed with the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF).
  • Required processing fees have reportedly been paid.
  • Chymaker says he is awaiting official approval from the Federal Government.
  • The lawyer is known for his outspoken views on Nigeria’s legal system and judicial reforms.

“I have today received a confirmation from my lawyer in Nigeria that my application to renounce my Nigerian citizenship has been submitted to the SGF and all fees paid as appropriate. I cannot wait for the approval,” he wrote.

The UK-based lawyer is widely known for his commentary on international law, Nigerian and UK legal practice, as well as cryptocurrency-related issues on social media.

Over the years, Chymaker has been an outspoken critic of certain aspects of Nigeria’s judicial system, particularly the application of the doctrine of judicial precedent, also known as stare decisis.

He has previously argued that the strict reliance on judicial precedent has contributed to controversial outcomes in some election tribunal cases and has called for reforms to strengthen the country’s justice system.

Chymaker has also encouraged Nigerian-trained lawyers to pursue advanced legal education and consider practising in jurisdictions with more developed legal systems, a position he has repeatedly shared through his social media platforms.

As of the time of filing this report, the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation had not issued any official statement regarding Chymaker’s application or the status of the process.
