Bandit leaders in Katsina State, Abu Radde and Umar Black, have surrendered their arms and released 15 captives following intense military operations by the combined forces of ‘Operation FASAN YANMA’.
This was confirmed in a statement released by the army on its official X page on January 20, 2025.
The statement said the bandit surrender ceremony was held on January 19, 2025, in Batsari and was attended by various stakeholders, including military representatives, to ensure transparency in the process.

During the event, the bandits handed over four AK-47 rifles and 15 captives, made up of three males, eight females and four children.
Authorities clarified that the surrender is a critical step towards the complete disarmament of the bandits and the release of all kidnapped victims, rather than a negotiation or peace meeting.
The surrendered weapons are now secured under the custody of the 17 Brigade, while the rescued captives have been entrusted to the local government authorities for rehabilitation and aftercare.
