The former Managing Director of the Delta State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission (DESOPADEC), Chief Askia Ogieh, has officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), after defecting from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with a declaring of grassroots mobilization for the party.
The defection took place in Uzere, Isoko South Local Government Area, Delta State, where Chief Askia and his political movement, “Hope Alive,” met with APC leaders and members of Uzere Ward 04 at Ogri Primary School. The event marked a significant realignment in the state’s political landscape, as one of PDP’s long-time heavyweights embraced the ruling party at the national level.
Chief Askia, in a passionate address to party faithful, stated that his move to the APC was not just a political calculation, but a genuine commitment to strengthening the party from the grassroots. He reassured APC members that he and his team were not joining to hijack the party structure, but to add value, grow the base, and help ensure the APC secures victories across all levels of governance.

“We are not here to dismantle what you have built. We are here to join you, to expand and energize this party. Our entry into the APC is for development, unity, and shared success,” Chief Askia declared.
The warm reception by the APC executives underscored the party’s open-door policy and growing influence in Delta State. The party’s Local Government Area Chairman, Comrade Vincent Egbogbo, represented by Vice Chairman Mr. K.C. Egwero, expressed gratitude for Askia’s courage, urging legacy APC members to embrace new entrants for the greater good of the party.
Mr. Egwero also emphasized the party’s inclusive philosophy, noting that the APC thrives on strength in numbers. He encouraged undecided PDP members still sitting on the fence to join the APC and take part in what he described as “a movement for real change in Delta.”
As the political atmosphere heats up ahead of the next elections, observers believe that more defections could follow, especially with APC making strategic inroads into PDP strongholds in the South-South.
