Arsenal are reportedly close to finalising a new long-term contract for manager Mikel Arteta, with talks between the club and the Spaniard said to have made significant progress.

Arteta’s current contract has nine months remaining, but there is growing confidence at the Emirates Stadium that the 44-year-old will commit his future to the Premier League champions.

The Arsenal boss has previously made it clear that he wants to remain in north London, insisting that he is “very happy” at the club and that there is no concern over the timing of his renewal.

Arsenal chief executive Richard Garlick has also described the new agreement as a “matter of time”.

Under the proposed deal, Arteta is expected to become one of the highest-paid managers in world football. His current package is reportedly worth £10 million per year, with an additional £5 million linked to Champions League qualification.

Since taking charge in December 2019, Arteta has transformed Arsenal into one of England’s leading clubs, culminating in the Gunners winning the Premier League last season for the first time in 22 years.

His influence now extends well beyond the touchline, with Arteta playing a major role in the club’s footballing decisions, including recruitment and squad development.

Arsenal’s recent pursuit of high-profile targets such as Vinicius Jr and Julian Alvarez also demonstrated the club’s willingness to back the manager’s ambitions in the transfer market.

The arrivals of Bruno Guimaraes and Ezri Konsa further underlined Arsenal’s commitment to strengthening the squad, despite both players approaching their 30s.

Arteta’s influence and the club’s willingness to invest in elite talent are understood to be central to the ongoing contract discussions.

At 44, Arteta has already become the longest-serving manager in the Premier League and English Football League, having spent almost seven years in charge of Arsenal.

Although a future return to Spain could eventually appeal to the former midfielder, particularly with interest from the country’s biggest clubs, his immediate focus remains firmly on Arsenal.

With a squad entering its prime and the club targeting further domestic and European success, Arsenal are keen to keep Arteta at the heart of their long-term project.

A new contract would provide both parties with greater stability as the Gunners seek to build on their Premier League success and pursue their first Champions League triumph.
