Apple is expected to unveil new smart-home products at its “Welcome Home” event scheduled for Tuesday, October 13, 2026, with reports pointing to a new smart-home hub, an updated HomePod mini and a refreshed Apple TV 4K. The event is expected to highlight Apple’s growing focus on connected home devices and artificial intelligence, although the company has yet to confirm the rumoured product lineup and specifications.

Key Highlights

  • Apple’s “Welcome Home” event is scheduled for October 13, 2026, in New York.
  • A new Apple smart-home hub with a display is expected to be a major attraction.
  • The HomePod mini could receive a processor upgrade, new colours and improved wireless connectivity.
  • The Apple TV 4K is tipped to get a faster chip and enhanced Siri features.
  • Apple could expand its smart-home ecosystem through additional third-party accessories.
  • The event is expected to focus on press announcements and hands-on demonstrations rather than a traditional keynote.
  • Apple has not officially confirmed the rumoured products, prices or technical specifications.

Apple Announces ‘Welcome Home’ Product Event

Apple’s marketing chief, Greg Joswiak, shared a teaser featuring an embroidered version of the company’s classic rainbow logo ahead of the event.

The company has invited selected media organisations and content creators to an in-person “Apple Experience” in Tribeca, New York, beginning at 9 a.m. Eastern Time.

Unlike a conventional Apple keynote, reports suggest the gathering could centre on coordinated press releases, short product videos and hands-on demonstrations rather than a full livestream from Apple Park.

The “Welcome Home” theme has fuelled speculation that Apple intends to focus on connected-home technology, an area where it already offers the Home app and HomeKit platform but has yet to establish a dedicated display hub comparable to products from Amazon and Google.

Apple Smart Home Hub Could Lead the Launch

The most anticipated rumoured product is a smart-home hub that has been referred to in reports as the HomePad, HomeView or Apple Home Hub.

The device is expected to feature a display measuring approximately six inches and could be designed for either countertop placement or wall mounting.

One rumoured configuration includes a speaker base and adjustable arm, with a design reportedly inspired by the classic iMac G4.

The proposed hub could serve several household functions, including:

  • Controlling compatible smart-home accessories.
  • Displaying calendars, widgets and personalised information.
  • Making FaceTime video calls.
  • Playing music and other media.
  • Providing household members with customised interfaces based on voice recognition or presence detection.

Reports have also suggested that the device could use software branded as homeOS or a similar platform, with deeper integration of Apple’s evolving Siri artificial intelligence features.

A price of approximately $350 has been discussed in reports, but Apple has not confirmed the device’s name, price, launch date or specifications.

HomePod Mini Update Could Bring New Colours and Faster Chip

Apple is also expected to refresh the HomePod mini, which was originally introduced in October 2020.

According to reports, the updated speaker could retain its familiar design while receiving internal improvements intended to support newer Siri features and enhance connectivity.

Possible upgrades include a faster S-series processor, an N1 networking chip and additional colour options, reportedly including pink and green.

The N1 chip is expected to improve wireless connectivity, potentially strengthening Wi-Fi and Bluetooth performance. Audio refinements have also been discussed, although the extent of any sound-quality improvements remains unconfirmed.

A refreshed HomePod mini would help Apple maintain its position in the smart-speaker market while connecting more closely with the company’s wider smart-home ecosystem.

Apple TV 4K Could Receive Major Hardware Improvements

The Apple TV 4K is another product expected to feature in the announcements.

The current generation was introduced in 2022, and reports suggest the next model could receive a newer A-series processor, additional memory and improved wireless connectivity.

Some speculation has pointed to an A19-class chip or a comparable processor, although Apple has not confirmed the hardware configuration.

The Siri Remote could also receive improvements, potentially including a speaker or enhanced features for locating a misplaced remote. Other reports have raised the possibility of microphones that would allow more direct voice interaction with Siri.

If introduced, the upgrades could improve performance and strengthen the Apple TV’s role as a central component of the company’s connected-home strategy.

Apple Could Expand Its Smart Home Accessories

Beyond its own hardware, Apple could broaden its smart-home offering through accessories developed with third-party partners.

Reports have mentioned possible products such as video doorbells, smart locks, thermostats and security cameras, including potential partnerships involving LG.

However, these products remain speculative ahead of the event, and there has been no official confirmation of a new accessory lineup.

A wider range of compatible devices could help Apple compete more directly with smart-home ecosystems built around Amazon Alexa and Google Home.

Siri AI Could Shape Apple’s Smart Home Strategy

Apple’s anticipated smart-home push comes as the company expands artificial intelligence features across its product ecosystem.

A dedicated home hub could provide a convenient way for household members to interact with Siri, control connected devices and access personalised information from a central screen.

Earlier reports suggested that development of the hub had been delayed while Apple worked on improving Siri’s capabilities.

The timing of the reported launch has therefore prompted speculation that the company believes its newer AI features could help make a dedicated home display more useful.

The effectiveness of these features will depend on the final hardware, software capabilities, privacy protections and the range of compatible accessories available to users.

Apple’s October Product Announcements Could Continue

The “Welcome Home” event is part of a busy period for Apple, with further product announcements reportedly expected later in October, including updates involving Mac and iPad devices.

However, the company has not officially confirmed the full schedule or all the products expected to launch during the month.

For now, the smart-home hub, HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K remain the main products anticipated for the October 13 gathering based on published reports.

The event could mark an important development in Apple’s smart-home strategy, but the final product lineup, pricing and availability will only become clear when the company makes its official announcements through the Apple Newsroom.
