The outcome of the party’s governorship primary was announced in Port Harcourt, by the Chairman of the APC governorship primary election committee, Bitrus Kwamoti, following the collation of results from the state’s 23 local government areas.
Kwamoti stated that Chinda, who contested as the sole aspirant, polled a total of 268,497 votes and fulfilled all constitutional requirements of the party to emerge as the APC flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election in Rivers State.

The primary election drew significant political attention, amid the lingering crisis within Rivers State politics and the influence of political allies associated with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, within the party structure.
The development also follows speculation over the political future of Gov. Fubara after reports suggested he withdrew from the APC governorship contest prior to the primary election.
