Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti didn’t mince words after his team’s lackluster performance led to a 1-1 draw against Las Palmas on Thursday. The LaLiga giants, who are off to a slow start this season, found themselves struggling once again before Vinicius Jr. salvaged a point with a late second-half goal.
Ancelotti took full responsibility for the team’s underwhelming start to the season, acknowledging that both he and his players need to step up their game. “It is clear that we are struggling to find the soundness of last season. But we must not look for excuses,” Ancelotti stated during a post-match press conference. “The schedule is tight, and we have to recover quickly because on Sunday we have another game.”
The seasoned coach admitted that his strategy has been lacking and that he needs to provide his players with more clarity and direction. “I need to have a clearer strategy, to give the players more clarity in what I want. It’s costing us more than we thought. We have to work and concentrate on the path we want to take.”

With just one win in their first three matches, Real Madrid—last season’s LaLiga and Champions League winners—are currently fourth in the standings with five points, trailing leaders Barcelona by four points. The sluggish start has sparked concerns among fans and pundits alike, as Madrid’s performance so far has fallen short of the high standards they set last season.
When asked about Kylian Mbappe, the star signing from Paris St Germain who has yet to find the back of the net in LaLiga, Ancelotti refrained from singling out any players for criticism. The manager’s focus remains on improving the team’s overall cohesion and performance.
As the pressure mounts, Real Madrid must quickly regain their form to keep pace in the title race. All eyes will be on Ancelotti and his squad as they prepare for their next LaLiga clash, where a stronger showing will be crucial to restoring confidence both on the pitch and in the stands.
