In response to a violent cult clash that claimed 22 lives in the communities of Nibo and Ifite Awka, the Anambra State Police Command has pledged to track down and arrest those responsible. The incident, which erupted during the Onwa Asaa festival on October 20, escalated into a bloody conflict between rival cult groups, sparking panic and chaos in the Awka South Local Government Area.
Commissioner of Police Nnaghe Itam, addressing concerned community members, vowed that the command is actively following leads to identify and apprehend the perpetrators behind the “Nibo/Ifite Awka massacre.” The clashes, which initially left 13 dead during the festival, saw the death toll climb to 22 as violence continued to unfold in the days that followed.
Eyewitnesses recounted scenes of terror as gunmen attacked multiple locations, shooting indiscriminately and leaving numerous victims across both communities.
To aid in the capture of the suspects, the Ezinano community has announced a substantial reward of N10 million for any information that leads to arrests. Police officials have also called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity.
“The command is already on the trail of several identified suspects, and police presence in the area will be significantly increased,” stated Commissioner Itam, reinforcing the command’s commitment to restoring peace and bringing justice to the affected communities.
