World record holder Tobi Amusan captured her fifth national title in the women’s 100m hurdles during the 2025 Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) national trials, which took place at the Yaba College of Technology Sports Complex in Lagos.
The 28-year-old athlete burst out of the blocks with remarkable speed, finishing the race in 12.57 seconds.
Rising talent Adaobi Tabugbo finished second with a time of 13.03 seconds, while Faith Osamuyi took third place with 13.36 seconds.

Amusan’s win reinforces her supremacy in the event as she ramps up her training for the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo this September.
In the men’s 400m final, Gafar Badmus claimed victory with a time of 45.71 seconds, outpacing Ezekiel Asuquo (46.29 seconds) and David Akhalu (46.91 seconds), who finished in second and third, respectively.
African U-20 champion Favour Onyah seized the opportunity to win her race in 52.69 seconds, with Opeyemi Deborah Oke and Anita Enaruna finishing in second and third place.
In the women’s 100m, African U-20 champion Chioma Nweke dethroned Olayinka Olajide to secure her first national title, crossing the finish line in 11.27 seconds.
Olajide finished second with 11.39 seconds, while Iyanuoluwa Bada took third in 11.45 seconds.
